Time Goes By

Our journey toward the Camino began in autumn, worked
it's way through the cold of winter and ended in the spring
when it was time to head to the airport to catch our flight
to Lisbon. This is a scene of a cave at Harriman State Park
in New York taken in January.

I really need to be more mindful of how quickly time goes by. I've been in my new house seven months already and it feels like I've just gotten settled in. So before I know it, the time will come and I'll be heading off on my next Camino!

Getting ready for the last one truly reminded me that time is relative. As I look back, it was almost exactly six months from the time the word Camino first came up until the day we headed to the airport to begin our journey. When I look at it from the now, it seems as if those months just flew by. But back then, it felt as if both the clock and calendar stood still. I know the stress, physical and mental, of my impending move had a lot to do with it. Long late nights made for long days. And looking ahead to a major event always seems to still the clock. I had two major things waiting on the time horizon - Camino and The Move.

But despite the sense of suspension, time moved on as it always does and it was May, even though the cold and rainy weather we were having was more fitting for late March or early April. It was finally Camino month! After all the months of training, reading and preparation it was almost time to go, to actually do it.

I was excited but also felt a bit of trepidation. I hadn't walked much at all for the last six weeks. I was totally engrossed in my move and my badly broken toe sharply cut back my mobility. I stayed busy and focused on the move and those things I had to get cleared up at work and not the Camino. It's what I had to do. It helped. Time started to move a little quicker. Soon, it was time to go!
